EPURE Facility
Precision Equipment for High-Power Fflash X-ray Testing
The EPURE Franco-British nuclear testing center is located on a site operated by the Military Applications Division of the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) in Valduc, France. This high-tech facility allows the two cooperating nations to securely test the safety and reliability of their nuclear warhead materials and parts while complying with anti-proliferation and test ban treaties. The extreme conditions of the tests require some particularly advanced equipment.
Explosively-driven hydrodynamic trials using multiple powerful X-ray machines
At EPURE, the materials being studied are exploded and high-power flash X-ray machines are used to observe how they behave when subjected to extreme deformation velocity (in the thousands of kilometers per second). The system requires state-of-the-art diagnostics to ensure complete safety during tests.
IRELEC a strategic supplier of precision robotics for science
IRELEC leveraged its proven experience supplying precision robotic systems to large research facilities to:
- Design, prototype, and supply the 128 impedance-matching pots
- Supply the high-voltage cables including the high-voltage feedthroughs and connectors
- Design and supply two anti-debris systems
- Design and supply the beam stop device, including the control electronics and software
